The distillery A.H. Riise is located on St. Thomas Island, an American Virgin Island in the Caribbean. Before this island became an American territory, it was a Danish colony. The pharmacist Albert Heinrich was allowed not only to open a pharmacy around the 1840s, but also to produce alcohol. Around 150 years ago, pharmacist A.H. Riise thus created Danish West Indian rum under the "Old St. Croix" brand, and today this introduction is honored with the exclusive blend La Galante. This bottling is named after Columbus' ship Santa Maria La Galante, which he piloted when he discovered St. Croix and the West Indies.
