Towards the end of the 19th century, the owner of the winery returned from his trip from Cape Town to find his farm in flames.
His exclamation "all lost" then finally gave his winery its name. The current owners of the winery - the Malan family - specialize in powerful and fruit-driven red wines.
Since 1987, Danie Malan has been the cellar master of the Allesverloren wine estate and is one of the most experienced cellar masters in the Cape.
The Allesverloren vineyards rise on the imposing Kasteelberg in the picturesque Riebeek Valley in the Swartland.
The vineyards are situated between 170m and 350m above sea level and benefit from a rainfall variance of 200mm. Cold, wet winters are followed by warm, dry summers where the grapes ripen easily and have a high sugar concentration.
The soils on this Swartland farm are a mixture of shale and weathered sandstone - a stony structure that is crucial for the special character of the Allesverloren wines.
After the grape harvest, this wine is aged for 18 months in old and in some new French barriques.
Grape variety: Cabernet Sauvignon.
Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels.
Acidity: 6,75 g/l.
Residual sugar: 2,0 g/l.
Drinking temperature: 16-18 °C.
Storage potential: 10 years.
This red wine goes perfectly with braised dishes, lamb and spicy cheeses.
