Unofficially, distillation has been taking place at Ardbeg Distillery since 1794 - in 1815 the distillery was bought by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg. "Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic language and means translated "small hill". The distillery is located on the south coast of the whisky region Islay. The Ardbeg WEE Beastie matures for only five years in former Bourbon and Oloroso sherry barrels. This Ardbeg was also named after a mythical creature from the peat bogs.
