Les Cretes Cuvee Bois 2016
The 2016 Valle d'Aosta Chardonnay Cuvée Bois is a mid-weight expression with creamy tones of canned peach, lemon mouse and almond paste. This wine performs beautifully in the mouth especially when you consider the softness and generosity of its fiber and texture. It ages on the fine lees with frequent bâtonnage in French oak for 11 months. Oak toast and spice builds intensity and complexity. However, there is no residual heaviness here. This mountain Chardonnay is fresh, zesty and almost electric in personality. Some 23,358 bottles were released.
The Charrère family (Eleonora, Elena, Costantino and Imelda) farms 20 hectares at the foot of Monte Bianco. Their high-altitude vineyards are planted between 600 and 900 meters above sea level. In 2016, Les Crêtes inaugurated a new tasting room that showcases local mountain architecture. They call this new space the Rifugio del Vino, and it makes a great destination for lovers of Valle d'Aosta wine.
