The upheavals at the beginning of the 20th century and in particular the First World War, which destroyed half of the Domaine Louis Roederer, prompted Léon Olry Roederer to rebuild his vineyard. He decided to buy grapes to ensure the continuity of the house in these times of crisis. At the same time, he created a wine from several vintages with a constant taste, regardless of the harvest year. Collection 242 is 56% 2017 vintage (42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir and 22% Meunier) plus 10% reserve wines and 34% Réserve Perpétuelle. It brings together the wines of the three Champagne grape varieties aged in oak barrels from different crus selected by Louis Roederer. This wine was named due to the 242nd wine composition of the house and is the successor of the Brut Premier. The maturation takes place for three to 4 years in the own cellars.
