Scala Dei Heretge 2016 Scala Dei Heretge 2016 is a deep, mature and elegant wine. This first vintage displays an excellent balance between maturity, freshness and tannicity. On the nose it starts out being very fruity, with ripe black and red fruit, before gradually revealing the mineral and graphite notes of the variety. On the palate it has volume and is dense and very direct, with a very lingering and fresh finish.

Characteristics of Scala Dei Heretge


Scala Dei Heretge is a red wine from the D.O.Q. Priorat produced by Celler Scala Dei in the municipality of La Morera del Montsant (Tarragona).

Celler Scala Dei is a historic Priorat wine. In 1878, the first bottles of Priorat wine were dispatched from their facilities to the Universal Exposition in Paris. Almost a century later, in 1973, Scala Dei shifted their focus from marketing bulk wine to producing bottled wines.

Celler Scala Dei works with 90 hectares of their own vineyards, distributed in 40 different locations. All these plots are located at an altitude of between 400 and 800 meters, on different kinds of soils. Slate, clay and calcareous soils, with all possible orientations due to the region’s unique terrain.

Scala Dei Heretge is the new wine from this winery, whose hallmark has always been the production of fine Grenaches.

Scala Dei Heretge is a wine made with Carignan grapes from three different "costers" (slopes), located in the municipalities of Vilella Alta and Torroja, in vineyards over 80 years of age.

The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in boxes. Once in the winery, they ferment with local yeasts and with 30% of the stalks. They macerate with their skins for 22 days before pressing. The wine is aged for 16 months in 4000-litre French oak foudres.
