The word pumpkin comes from the word "pepon", in English "big melon", and was later changed by colonists to "pumpkin".
Colonists, often filled the pumpkins with cream, honey, eggs and spices and cooked the pumpkin in the hot ashes so that it was completely blackened and the contents made a delicious meal.
