The company's founder, Don Andrés Brugal Montaner, left his native Spain to strike it rich in the Caribbean.
After learning the craft of rum production in Cuba, he was drawn to the Dominican Republic, more precisely to Puerto Plata, around 1855. It is in this city that the rums of the Brugal company still mature today.
There, after a few years, he succeeded in developing a manufacturing process that ensures the consistent quality of the rum. This secret is now passed on from generation to generation.
The Brugal LEYENDA 5 Years Old is aged in American bourbon white oak barrels and then in Spanish red oak barrels in which sherry matured.
